You know who took the iPad 2 launch pretty seriously? Samsung, that's who. Just as we had heard, the company's executives were impressed by Apple's ability to slim down its tablet and, well, it turns out that it took it as a challenge to come up with some thinner tablets of its own. That's right, in addition to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 that we have seen repeatedly teased over the last few weeks the company's announcing a totally revamped Galaxy Tab 10.1, and both slates are incredibly thin yet very well spec'd. On top of that, both will be the first Honeycomb tablets to stray from the pure Android 3.0 experience and add what Samsung's taken to calling its TouchWiz UX or TouchWiz 4.0. We've got all the details and some hands-on impressions waiting below, so hit the break!

@gradualpetrify because americans are copying first
why do asians always copy inventions
@bathellfire It does, there're other vids of at least the 8.9 on and running. Though the software is most likely still unpolished. Meh just see it as a teaser. Though I agree it's nicer to get a complete idea of stuff like Apple does. Samsung generally sells their stuff well.
I was kind of looking for the new "super think" tab demoes. What's the point of announcing it, when the prototype doesn't even turn on. Also, what's the point of showing an incomplete beta software on prototype hardware? Another fail. Not trying to troll here, or seem like applefanboi, but the reason why Apple successfully markets their products, is because they demo final versions, not half-cooked ones, with hardware prototypes that are just blocks of plastic and glass.
On non nom
What is the teaser picture actually showing then? The new 8.9 looks different. On engadget.com you can see a picture under "Samsung's latest 8.9-inch Galaxy Tab teaser hints impressive slimness"
Looks laggy because of poor camera quality.
Touchwiz 4.0 looks no where near as intrusive as that of previous touchwiz's :) And I have to say, as far as I can see so far, I prefer this touchwiz skin too stock android 3.0 If I change my mind, XDA is always there right? ;D
Stock honeycomb is better but hey its all about options
I think the 8.9 is going to be the most competitive Android tablet to be released any time soon. The fact that the units don't turn on at all bothers me slightly. They might have rushed the production to beat the iPad in thinness. I also don't mind the UI layer surprisingly, and I've read it's an optional download.
For those who feel the interface is sluggish or laggy, software on this device is still under development so when this tablet hits the market you will find more responsive interface. And Touchwiz will be available as an optional update, so if you do not want to use it, you can ignore it and use honeycomb default interface.
It is so sluggish and laggy. I definitely prefer the stock Honeycomb.
Finaly a skin for honeycomb
Glad Samsung put their TouchWiz overlay on, I'm a fan of it, and it does a good job of differentiating it from competing products. Stock Android, as good as it is, leaves very little room for product differentiation. And TW gets better with upgrades, I prefer it on my Galaxy S to alternative launchers like LauncherPro.
for me i would buy it and root it , samsung has amazing hardware but bad software thanks for freedom of android Im posting this from my xoom I guess I should've waited but I love my xoom
Another touch wiz fail for Samsung.
@pixelatedjoe That's cause we probably have too many windows and tabs open that the video lags. (that's happening to me.)
Not as fluid as stock honeycomb. Dare I say nice try?
