iMac Take Apart - Part 1 (Remove Front Panel) In this video I will show you how to remove the front panel from your White Intel iMac & G5 iMac with iSight. There are a few videos online showing how to pull the front panel off but mis showing you how to properly disconnect the top of the panel from the iMac. This is a very important step so that you do not break the panel or metal fingers that hold the panel to the iMac. *** You need to have an Apple Access Card Tool to properly disconnect the panel from the iMac *** Online this card/tool can cost $20-$30 but I have posted a video here showing you how easy it is to make your own for Free. www.youtube.com Related Video: --"iMac Take Apart - Part 2 (Remove LCD Panel)" www.youtube.com ******** I would like to point out that if your computer is still under warranty or you have very little or no computer hardware knowledge at all then it's highly recommended to take your Mac to an Authorized Apple Repair Shop. ******** -- -- Carter Blog: TwistedMac.com Profile Carter.TwistedMac.com

thanks for the vid. i have an old iMac G5 that i wanna get rid of. it will cost me $1000 to repair it. i bought a new one already. i just wanna make sure if i throw away my mac or recycle it that no -one can access any of my information on the computer. ive just removed the memory sticks. is this enough? or do i also need to remove the hard drive??
There are no finger clips in my White Intel iMac 6.1, 2.16 GHz Core Duo, 24" There is no shielding to peel back. The panel removed easy - 8 screws and 2 plugs. The 250 GB HD has a heat sensor sticked on.
@hbmkeith ..... yes the original iMac G5's only have the three screws on the bottom with the panel pulling off the back, I have had entire labs with these iMacs as well but the iMacs this video is for it for the last generation iMac with iSight & White Intel iMacs. These all need the card tool. The first model G5 that you have at your work is the only model iMac that had the screws on the bottom to pull the back off ***Best iMac Design IMO ;-)
I am getting ready to recycle my g5 i-mac and wanted to take the HD out just to be on the safe side.. Thanks for the video it help me
Appart from the mac mini's this thing is the worst one to repair..
thanks for doing this and showing us all.
@mattcarterVIDEO, thanks for your response nevertheless. It turns out the the new iMacs have a simple command that you execute when you turn your iMac back on. Hold down the eject button and turn the mac back on. Like magic it pops out!! Hurayyyyy!! Cheers!
thanks! took me a while to seperate the plastic catches with the access card thing, but finally managed it. just took the panel off, now its onto the screen :s
Super helpful...thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge! Wish me luck...I'm going in now.
I bought my mac direct from Apple in mid 2009 and nothing in your video applies as to how to get the case open. I have a stuck disc and I have not found one single video (yet) Youtube ( or anywhere) about how to take my iMac apart. Apple must be aware of users trying to take their iMacs apart and decided to make it next to impossible for home owners to get inside the unit, let alone get the stuck CD out without having to take it into the shop. Not one single video for stuck discs applies to me.
@hbmkeith ...err, my mistake, 3 screws, lol. i don't have a clue why i said 4, lol.
@twistedmacVIDEO ...... true, my bad. and damn, sry u have 30 of them things, lol. I will admit that i don't know as much as i would want to about macs, but what i do know about them, i don't like, and i gave mac's an honest try, either way, good vid, my intention wasn't to deny that fact, but i seen some places where people where a lil confused, lol. Anyways, i used a couple of your vids, good stuff
@eliojair Always nice to save a few dollars, especially when it's $200 !!
@TheSuicidalTwinky Good to hear!! :-)
@hbmkeith ...... those videos I talk about that are on YouTube of people pulling up on the front panel only and not using the card tool is correct. I'm not talking about the iMac G5 that pulls off from the back. The iMac G5 has three screws on the bottom and the back panel pulls off. I have a 30 of those iMacs at my work.
Just thought I'd say thanks for your video, It helped me and my dad a lot! :D
just wanted to add that mac is useless. Now that i got that out of the way. just wanted to correct this dude on one small mistake, the vids where people are just removing the four screws on the bottom and then pull the faceplate off is in fact right, its just a diffrent model from the one you have in ur tutorial. I have an imac G5 i just repaired the HD in and i only had to remove the four bottom screws then remove the back, not the faceplate, without a card. its all in the model of imac folks.
apple store wanted 250 for this job, with your help, it cost me 200 less.
Thanks a lot...
thx, for the first step, on to the next (-: Worked perfectly

Thank you very much for this video! It really helped me out to fix my iMac.... Apple wanted $333 for a 320GB drive install.... I did it myself with a 750GB drive for $69 Woot! This video was a life safer... keep up the good work!
