Upgrading the internal hard drive in an aluminum Apple iMac computer. The replacement hard drive is a Segate 1.5TB model. Fitting the hard drive took around 30 minutes. A full step by step description of the upgrade is on my blog at www.briandorey.com

Great video!
@SEPNo3 my mac used a sata but if you take the drive out you can check the connector.
what type of hard drive do I need too replace my Mac's HD? SATA? ATA?
@JackScallops well, an iMac would be tricky to upgrade. but a Mac pro is pretty much the same as a high-end pc and wouldn't be hard to get into at all if you know what you're doing.
well it's possible...but i worry about reconnecting it 100% correct or break the screen.
Update, I just installed a new 1TB HD into my iMac! Thanks again. Just note that was different for me: the torx 8 screws were pretty tight on my iMac. I had to use heavy force to get them off, and almost stripped a couple.
Great video, way better than others I've seen. My iMac drive died this week and I will be using your awesome video to put in a new 1TB screamer this weekend. Thanks!
you've got real guts to take apart a mac! i wouldn't even attempt it! :P
@Mikeint0sh It was a 2008 imac. I am not sure if the earlier ones will take large drives
great video mate :) that suction cup was abit of an over kill though, i used the sucker on the end of shower sponge :) quick question, what year iMac is this, im going to upgrade my old 2007 iMac before its sold on, and im wasnt sure if it could take a 1.5tb drive
You will either need to make a full backup and restore to the new drive or reinstall the operating system and then copy all your data and apps back in again.
I havent had any problems with the drive since I installed it.
will my old software still be there when i upgrade? sorry im not a computer whiz
have u had problems with this drive? i just got mine on ebay today. just been seeing lots of bad reviews. only paid 80 bucks so i couldnt pass this up
Of all the video's posted on this subject yours is by far the best; cleanly presented, clear and concise. I would only suggest that you inform the viewer that a Torx T8 screwdriver is required for disassembly, just in case they don't have one handy.
will snow leopard recognize the new HD as a new mac? I've a single user license! How do u get all ur stuff from the old HD to the new one?
One thing to note, The hardrive you installed is the one that is bad and always dies and theres going to be a recall on um i hope
Excellent tutorial man, nice and easy to follow.
Thanks! That was A great tutorial And I am now able to pimp up my iMac a lot!
