Who would have thought that a Q4 earnings call today would be blessed by CEO Steve Jobs. Just prior to the Q&A portion of the call, Jobs went into a 5-minute rant about the state of both the smartphone and tablet markets. Notably, he went directly after Google and their "open system" and he laughed off the idea that the iPad will have any real competition. Amazing stuff. Open versus closed, the idea of "open", fragmentation, tablet price points and more. If you wondered what Steve Jobs thinks, this is the phone call to listen to, he's definitely not holding back. In the Q&A he was asked about the GalaxyTab it got even better which he derided as "tweeners". He harps on their limited app selection, and the conclusion was that these tablets will be "DOA." We'll see, the 7 inch form factor is the perfect blend of screen size and portability.
